Forest Hills gymnastics prepares as regionals approach closer

As regionals draw closer and closer, last week’s gymnastics meet was an excellent refresher for the team since it didn’t technically go head to head with anyone.

Last Wednesday, the FHC gymnastics team had a non-conference competition, meaning it wasn’t going up against the other teams score-wise. That said, there were still many personal highlights from the competition.

Junior Bronwen Smith added a new release to her routine and received her highest bar score of the season. Fellow junior Alyssa Wierenga upgraded her vault skill, landing her first-ever competition Tsuk (a type of vault).

Junior Megan Wilson received another amazing qualifying score, and junior Allison Kelly received her highest floor score to date. According to her head coach, Lauren Suzio, Allison had a “beautiful” routine.

Sophomore Kennedy Zint received qualifying scores on both events she needed, bringing her closer to qualifying for regionals. However, she wasn’t the only one, as junior Payton Dailey received another qualifying score on bars with an incredibly clean routine. Freshman Claire Worth also received qualifying scores on bar and floor routine.

Other highlights include sophomore Lily Zorn, who had an incredible beam routine, and freshman Addison Hoxworth, who competed for the first time in her high school career, competing in every competition.

While the scores weren’t being compared with other teams, it’s obvious that the Rangers had an outstanding match. The gymnastics team continues to make progress, with each player constantly adding new skills into everyone’s repertoire in preparation for regionals.

On the 14th, the gymnastics team will be taking on Rockford at home.

“While we weren’t going up against the other teams for team scores, we had an absolutely amazing competition!” coach Suzio said.
