Hockey bounces back with a 5-2 victory over Kenowa Hills

Last Saturday, the boys fell just short on the rink. On Wednesday, though, it would not be the same case.

Ranger Hockey fell short to Grand Rapids Catholic Central last weekend in a 2-1 overtime thriller. To open up this week’s play, FHC squared off with Kenowa Hills.

In net for the night was stud junior goaltender, Justin Baehr, as he continued his dominating streak in net by knocking away shots all night. On the offensive end, junior Sammy Mielock came up with a hat trick, junior Anthony Ott scored one, and senior Lucas Jeffreys found the net once to help give the Rangers a 5-2 win.

Over the past few games, Lucas and Sammy have continued to put up big numbers in the scoring column; head coach Bill McSween has taken notice.

“Sammy and Lucas are flat-out good players,” spoke coach McSween. “They make my job easier because your best players have to be the hardest workers. They work hard both in practice and in games. We are starting to see the trickle-down effect, and our younger guys are developing nicely.”

The Rangers move to 7-6 on the season and will face off against Mona Shores on Friday, January 21. After this weekend, FHC will move on to a three-game week to wrap up the month. Then, the boys carry on to the final month of regular-season play.

“We are going to have a tough stretch coming up. We are going to be playing a lot of good teams,” Mielock said. “Heading out to the MIHL and public school showcases, we’ll play a few teams we have never seen. It’s going to be good to see a lot of different styles of hockey and make our team game more solid.”
