Girls varsity golf places seventh at Reeths-Puffer invitational

Sophomore Skyler Tierney continued her great play for the girls varsity golf team on Tuesday at Lincoln Golf Club in Muskegon. Skyler carded an 81, placing sixth overall in the tournament. The Rangers finished seventh as a team with a score of 365. The Reeths-Puffer invite was hosted at Lincoln Golf Club, which just so happens to be the site of the 2021 regional tournament.

“It was very helpful to play and get to know the course before our regionals,” Skyler said.

The sophomore has led the team throughout the season. However, the rest of the team backed up Skyler. Sophomore Maya Fitzgerald shot an 88, and seniors Alyssa Cheslek and Lexi Schnelker contributed with a score of 98.

The course gave the girls some trouble, being the first time they had seen it. Tricky greens caused lots of missed putts. Senior Bella Wiseley struggled on the greens but is thankful for playing a practice round at the host venue for regionals.

“I think the best thing that came out of today, was the fact that we got to see the course with our own eyes,” Bella said. “The most important event of the season is the regional tournament, and this was our best form of preparation.”

The Rangers have two events left to close out conference play that includes a final jamboree at Thornapple Pointe and the conference tournament at Eygpt Valley Country Club.

“We will no doubt be continuing to hammer the work on short game,” head coach Paul TenEyck said. “We are close to finishing the season, and we are to the point where these next matches are crucial for our future.”
