Skylar Tierney leads the girls varsity golf team to a third-place finish in a conference event
On Wednesday, the girls varsity golf team took third place after traveling to East Grand Rapid’s jamboree held at Kent Country Club. The Rangers scored a team total of 189, beating Greenville, Forest Hills Northern, and Northview. Yet, Byron Center and East Grand Rapids topped the Rangers with scores of 168 and 170. Sophomore Skyler Tierney led the Rangers with a score of 43.
The weather was an opponent for all teams on Wednesday. The rain, wind, and cold temperatures created more obstacles for the contestants, as they were bundled up competing for over two hours in the unfortunate condition. The mid-50s temperature created a new environment for the girls after they had been used to playing in warm weather since the beginning of the season.
“We played well today and hung in there for the entire round,” head coach Paul TenEyck said. “Especially in the harsh conditions we faced out there.”
Senior Bella Wiseley shot a 50 yesterday at Kent and is looking forward to continuing her improvement throughout the remainder of the season. Her dedication to making her swing more consistent and repeatable has shown her that she is making progress.
“I have recently fixed my swing and still have to get used to it,” Bella said. “But it paid off today, tomorrow I will need to work on ingraining that swing into my head, and I should be set to have more consistent shots.”
The Rangers’ next event will be held at Boulder Creek golf club. The conference jamboree hosted by the Northview Wildcats will be a good opportunity for Bella and the team to continuing on the upward trend that they have seen all season long.
