Varsity softball bounces back with a doubleheader win versus Northview
After a demoralizing loss against Mona Shores on Friday, the varsity softball team looked to bounce back. The team took on the Northview Wildcats on Monday. In the first game, they battled the Wildcats and won in a nail-biter 11-6. Senior Faith Addington and freshman Lacey Smith had big-time performances. The second game was a change of pace compared to the first. The Rangers dominated the team in red, winning 19-4. In this game, freshman Jamison Sturtz and senior Bela Gonzalez dominated both sides of the plate, bringing them victory.
The first game was marked by pitching. Faith pitched all eight innings, struck out seven batters, and had a WHIP of 1.62. Faith continues to show off on the mound; she has pitched in three straight games. Lacey led the hitting attack with three hits and two RBIs. Freshman Lea Zainea had two hits, and Abby Davis had an RBI.
The second game was an all-around better performance for the girls. They got hot at the plate, scoring 19 total runs. A huge reason why they had so many runs was because of Jamison’s offensive prowess. She had a game-high of 4 hits, 6 RBIs, and a QAB of three. Other Rangers added to the cause, including senior Kylie Halverson’s 2 hits, Alyssa Wierenga’s 4 RBI’s, and Lacey Smith’s 3 RBI’s. Bela pitched for the Rangers, and she had a phenomenal day on the mound. In five innings, she threw 5 strikeouts and notched a WHIP of 1.40.
FHC moves to 8-11 on the season with an 8-3 conference record. The girls look to add to their winning streak on Wednesday, May 12, when they take on Northview once again.
