Varsity softball puts together its best performance of the season by beating Grand Rapids Christian 19-2
After two wins against Grand Rapids Christian on Monday, varsity softball looked for a three-peat on Wednesday. Those two wins were the first two wins of the season. Heading into Wednesday’s game, FHC looked to continue its winning streak with even more momentum. They would do just that, and they pulled off one of the best performances of the season. In the end, FHC defeated the Eagles 19-2 with help from senior Faith Addington and junior Alyssa Wierenga. Faith had, once again, a phenomenal day on the mound, and Alyssa dominated at the plate.
Unlike the first two games, this game finished early. The team scored seven runs in the second inning and nine runs in the third. After being up 17 runs, the game was called. Due to their dominance at-bat and a limited amount of errors, the Rangers ended up victorious. FHC only had one error which is tied for the least amount of errors all season. The team also had a season-high of nine stolen bases. Faith Addington led FHC’s pitching attack; she only gave up two runs on three hits. Switching gears, the girls teared it up on the offensive attack. Alyssa Wierenga had two hits, including a triple and four stolen bases. Jamison Sturtz added two hits and three steals. Maya Holser scored four times, and Lacey Smith drove in three runs. FHC’s all-around exceptional effort in this contest should be a positive milestone to build upon this season.
The Rangers improve to 3-7 on the season with a 3-3 conference record. FHC takes on Zeeland East this Thursday, April 29, at Zeeland East. The girls look to continue their winning streak against the Chix.
