JV softball loses to Zeeland West in tough doubleheader
Last night, the JV softball team faced off against the Zeeland West Dux in a doubleheader matchup. After coming off several losses in their last few games, the girls could not break their streak and lost to the Dux in both games.
The Rangers rotated between two different pitchers throughout the first game, starting with sophomore Lauren Halverson and ending with sophomore Charlotte Stephen. FHC’s struggled because of its batting percentage throughout the night. They struck out 14 times throughout the game; however, Charlotte had a phenomenal hit, driving in two runs for the Rangers. That wasn’t enough for a victory, though, as the Rangers lost 9-5 against the Dux.
Charlotte was back at the pitch for the second game and remained there throughout the entirety of it. The Dux were able to get 12 hits off of her and three walks. Once again, the FHC struggled at the plate during the second game; however, sophomore Elizabeth Ptak went two-for-four with a bases-loaded triple, giving her team the ability to score three runs. Just like the first game, the Rangers could not hang on and lost to the Dux by a score of 17-9.
After this doubleheader, the Rangers now hold onto an overall record of 7-7 and will head to take on the Zeeland East Chix in another doubleheader. The games will begin at 4:15 PM on Thursday, April 29, on the Chix’s home field.
Zoe is a senior in her fourth year on staff. She will be attending Wheaton College next year to play both soccer and basketball. GO THUNDER!
