Girls lacrosse falls 15-11 to Grand Rapids Catholic Central

The lady Rangers’ lacrosse team fell to Grand Rapids Catholic Central 15-11 on Thursday. Sophomore Shannon Murphy had four goals for the Rangers, and Gabby Hendricks had three. The girls are now 2-3 on the season as they near the midpoint of the year.

For the lacrosse team, the problem seems to be consistency. There is no doubt that this group of girls has plenty of potential to compete with the best teams in the state; they are just struggling to put it all together right now. However, against Grand Rapids Catholic Central, head coach Zoe Mamo was able to take away the positives, especially after the way the team started off the game.

“Some of the positives we saw were how strong we started the game and how we took care of the ball in the beginning,” Mamo said. “It was a tough loss as the girls were in it all game, but I think it was a great eye-opener that when they show up and play strong, they can compete with the conference teams.”

The Rangers stuck close with a very talented team in Grand Rapids Catholic Central throughout the game. Unfortunately for FHC, the girls lost all of their momenta from the beginning stages of the game. This led Catholic Central to capitalize on the opportunity to secure the win.

“We started off pretty good,” junior Sophie Hartl said. “Towards the end of the game, though, Catholic was able to outlast us.”
