After its past two games got canceled, the varsity softball team was thrilled to get back into action. FHC could not face Lowell because of COVID but instead got to take on the Sailors of South Christian. The Rangers knew how talented the Sailors were, but that only lifted their performance. The first game was a dog fight; however, the Rangers fell 9-8. Senior Faith Addington, senior Bela Gonzalez, and junior Alyssa Wierenga had big games. FHC had a better game hitting the ball in the second game but struggled by giving up runs. South Christian defeated the Rangers in the second game, 19-11. Sophomore Maya Hosler, Bela Gonzalez, and senior Abby Davis starred in the second game. 

In the first game, the girls had all the momentum in the start. Faith Addington started on the mound, and she dominated, throwing for six strikeouts. Kylie Halverson, Alyssa Wierenga, Maya Hosler, and Bela Gonzalez all had two hits. They each added a run as well, adding to their impressive performance. Heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the girls led 8-5. Three more outs, and the girls would secure the team’s first victory. However, the Sailors rallied and scored four straight runs, spoiling FHC’s victory. Heading into the second game, the team was devasted but confident in its chances. The Rangers’ confidence showed as they hit the ball extremely well with 20 hits. Maya Holser led all hitters with a fabulous 5-5 outing at the plate. She had two doubles, a triple, scored three times, and drove in four runs. To help her cause, Abby Davis added three hits along with Bela Gonzalez’s four hits and three runs, not to mention Jamison Sturtz’s two hits. Although the girls heated up at the plate, they struggled in the field. They gave up 22 hits and allowed 19 runs. The girls fell 19-11.

After the South Christian doubleheader, FHC moves to 0-6 on the season with an 0-3 conference record. The Rangers will face Grand Rapids Christian, its conference foe, on Monday at home.
