Ranger crew team dominates its first official regatta of the season
This past weekend the FHC Crew team took part in their first regatta of the season. There were eighteen total events throughout the day, and the boys and girls team combined were able to take home the gold in fifteen of the events.
For the girls team, the women’s varsity eight+ boat secured a first-place victory in their race. Racing in that boat was a solid senior lineup of Abigail Cool, Alaina Briggs, Valerie Greenwood, and Megan Cushman in the cox seat. The women’s JV four+ team also placed first in its race this weekend. Junior Holly McLenithan led this boat in the cox seat, followed by juniors Rylie Beatty, Enmalynn Holmquist, and Olivia Dewald-Davis. Junior Hannah Duprey also was in the rear of this boat. The women’s novice 8+ boat, along with several other boats on the girls team, went on to secure a first or second-place victory as well this weekend.
On the boys side of the team, the men’s novice 8+ and the men’s novice 8+/B team took home first place in both of their races this weekend. The men’s varsity 8+ boat had a phenomenal finish in their race, placing first overall and was coxed by junior Korbin Thompson. Also racing in that boat were juniors Kevin McPoland, Roman Kalaczinski, and Jack Woods, accompanied by seniors Caleb Scholtens, Ben Busch, and Tanner Wooden. Lastly, racing in the varsity 8+ boat was the only underclassman on the team, sophomore Sam Logan.
After a successful start to their season at this regatta, the Rangers will be heading to Riverside Park this upcoming weekend to race in their first invitational of the year. The first races will begin at 8:00 AM this Saturday, April 24, and will run into the afternoon. The FHC Crew team will be taking on several other schools from all around West Michigan in this upcoming event.
Zoe is a senior in her fourth year on staff. She will be attending Wheaton College next year to play both soccer and basketball. GO THUNDER!
