JV Softball picks up two tough losses against the Lowell Red Arrows
Last night, the JV Softball team faced off against the Lowell Red Arrows for the second time this week. With their two previous games ending in close scoring, yet in the Rangers favor, they were once again looking for that favorable outcome. However, at the end of the night, the Red Arrows defeated the Rangers in both games by a small margin.
The Red Arrows started off strong in their first game while coming out quick in the second inning with seven of their ten runs for the game. Sophomore Lauren Halverson pitched this first game having three strikeouts, two walks, and eight hits. Lauren was also able to go two for two in her at-bats for the Rangers while scoring two runs as well. Alongside her, fellow sophomore Elizabeth Ptak hit one for two in her at-bats. Despite their efforts, the Rangers were not able to come back from their second inning slump and were defeated by the Red Arrows 10-4.
With the outcome of the second game going against the Rangers as well, they were able to put up much more of a fight against the Red Arrows. Sophomore Charlotte Stephen pitched, striking out four girls and giving up seven walks. Not to mention, Charlotte also had an impressive game at the plate hitting three for four with two of those hits being doubles and a single. Once again, Elizabeth also hit well for the Rangers going two for four and hitting a triple. By the end of the game, the Rangers were defeated by a mere score of 13-12.
After these two losses, the Rangers now hold a very respectable record of 7-3. Their next games will be played this Friday, April 23 as they will head out to South Christian High School to take on the Sailors in yet another double-header.
Zoe is a senior in her fourth year on staff. She will be attending Wheaton College next year to play both soccer and basketball. GO THUNDER!
