FHC varsity softball fails to get revenge on Greenville and is defeated 11-7
When the FHC varsity softball team suffered back-to-back losses against Greenville, they knew that they were not playing at the level they should be. After all, this team has only played for a few weeks and is just starting to get close with one another. Once the second loss against Greenville started to sink in, the girls were fired up and could not wait to play them again. In their single game against Greenville, FHC played much better than its previous games. However, it was not enough to get the win versus the Yellow Jackets. FHC was defeated by a score of 11-7. Some key players in this game were senior Kylie Halverson, sophomore Maya Holser, junior Alyssa Wierenga, and senior Faith Addington.
In the first game against Greenville on Wednesday, Greenville’s pitcher held the Rangers to only four hits and two runs. When the team realized that the same player would be pitching against them again, they were pumped. FHC went toe-to-toe with Greenville, and the score was 4-4 heading into the fifth inning. The sixth inning would haunt FHC, as the Rangers fell back onto old habits and gave up five runs. Although Greenville had taken all the momentum away, the girls did not quit. Kylie Halverson went 3-4 from the plate and scored twice. Along with Kylie, Maya Holser went 3-4 with two triples and had two RBI’s. Lastly, Alyssa Wierenga was 2-4 and scored twice. Faith Addington also played well on the mound; she struck out seven batters while showing a display of how well she can change up her pitches.
The Rangers move to 0-5 on the season with an 0-3 conference record. Still looking for their first victory of the season, the girls are slated to continue their conference schedule on Monday, April 19th against the Lowell Red Arrows.
