As the winter sports season approaches, the FHC freshman basketball team is ready for what they hope will be a breakout year. With a mix of talent, energy, and players ready to make a name for themselves and their grade, the Rangers have spent the last several weeks preparing for their first real taste of high-school basketball. Even though the team is new to this level, the players are already showing confidence, chemistry, and a drive to prove that they belong.
From the outside, this year’s freshman team looks like a group with a lot of potential, but what really stands out is how determined the players are to take advantage of opportunities in front of them. For many, this is their first time playing in a true high school environment, with a faster pace, tougher competition, and a louder atmosphere. But instead of being nervous, the team seems excited for the challenge.
One of the players leading the charge is Aiden Santos, who already has a sense of what the Rangers need to improve on.
“Sometimes we don’t swing the ball enough, and it slows down our offense,” Santos said.
Ball movement has been a key emphasis during practice, and the team recognizes that running a smooth offense will be crucial once they start playing real games.
“We just want to come in strong and avoid taking any unnecessary losses,” Santos said.
That attitude reflects the whole team confident, focused, and ready to compete. Another key player, Jace Aldridge, also has high expectations.
“The team’s goals are to put up strong all-around stats,”Aldridge said.
From the way the team has been practicing, those goals don’t seem unrealistic. The Rangers excel in areas that many freshman teams struggle with.
“We play with great energy, and everyone on the team can knock down shots,” Aldridge said.
Their shooting ability and overall intensity give them the potential to be a fast-paced, high-scoring group. Who will win a lot of games?
For some players, this season means even more than just basketball. Charlie Zorn, who also plays football, is especially excited about this year.
“I’m excited for the chance to win, especially since it didn’t happen in football; now it’s our time,” Zorn said.
For Zorn, basketball offers a fresh start and a new chance to compete for something meaningful. Zorn’s physical approach brings a level of toughness that every team needs, especially at the freshman level, where battles for rebounds and defensive pressure often decide games.
“I play basketball to get stronger, push myself, and become a better person,” Zorn said.
That kind of mindset is one of the biggest reasons the Rangers believe they can build something special this year.
As the season gets closer, the excitement around the team continues to grow. Whether it’s the energy in practice or the chemistry they’ve already built, it’s clear that the FHC freshman team is heading into the season with confidence and high expectations. If they keep improving and playing unselfishly, they have a real chance to surprise people and possibly make a strong run in their conference.
