Scottie Scheffler has been on the rise for the past several years, and his status is at the top. He has grown so much over the years, and many people believe that he could be one of the greatest of all time. I also believe that he could be a GOAT. He has the talent, and his career is trending in that direction.Â
Scottie Scheffler has been dominant in the golf industry, being at the top of the leaderboard as the #1 best golfer. Scottie is just 29 years old, so he has much more time to become even better. If we take a look back just a couple of years, Scottie was in a putting slump and he wasn’t doing as well as he would like. Scottie worked hard to overcome that problem, and it made him the top player in the world.Â
Even Bryson DeChambeau, a top-ranked golfer, said that Scottie wasn’t good back in his college years. Clearly, he has improved significantly since then. Also, Rory McIlroy stated, “In a historical context, you could argue that there’s only maybe two or three players in the history of the game that have been on a run, the one that Scottie’s been on here for the last 24 to 36 months. Incredibly impressive”. McIlroy also recognized that Scheffler was the “bar that we’re all trying to get to”. It’s mind-boggling to realize that he has held the #1 spot for over 150 cumulative weeks, out of more than 25,000 professional players.Â
To put this into perspective, Scottie has won the Masters two times, once in 2022 and once in 2024. The Master’s wins are just two of the 4 majors he has won. Just this past year, he has won the 2025 PGA Championship and the 2025 Open Championship. In the 2020s, he has won 4 majors, only one away from a career grand slam: The U.S. Open. Scottie has earned over $140 million in only the past 5 years, making him one of the highest-paid athletes in the whole world.
Scottie Scheffler has clearly shown that he is one of the most dominant players in the sport of golf. Just looking back at these few years, it is evident that he most definitely can be a GOAT. I believe that saying he is the only GOAT is wrong. I still think, as of right now, Scottie’s career compared to Tiger Woods’ career isn’t quite there. What I do believe, though, is that if Scottie keeps this streak going, then a spot in the GOAT debate is very valid. Saying that he can top Tiger Woods’ career, in my opinion, is very much egregious. Â
