Name: Maggie Holt
Class: Junior
Sport: Varsity Swimming
How long have you been swimming for?
“I have been swimming for 7 years. I started swimming club in fifth grade.”
What other sports (if you play any) do you participate in at FHC?
“I play for Forest Hills water polo. Hopefully, I’ll be on Varsity this coming season since I was pulled up to Varsity for post-season last year.”
What is your best memory from your time swimming?
“My best memories are probably the locker room talks with the team after a really hard practice that Tim or Dennis decided to give us. It’s a good team bonding moment for all of us because we all completed the hard set together.”
What are the strengths of this year’s team?
“I think we have a lot of good assets to the team this year; I definitely see many of the freshmen going to state, which is really rare. We finally have a pretty average-sized team as well, which is nice after having low numbers the past two years.”
What are your individual goals for this season?
“I would like to qualify for state in more than one event this year and be able to drop time in my 100 backstroke.”
Who is the biggest influence in your athletic career, and why?
“My club coach, Mike Holter, is the biggest influence in swimming because every time I tell him I want to quit or not do the set, he tells me he believes in me, and that I have it in me somewhere to push through the meet or practice and accomplish my goals.”
What music do you listen to to get fired up for meets?
“I like to listen to a lot of different music before a race, but I would have to say I listen to Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion the most.”
Who is your favorite professional athlete?
“My favorite professional athlete is Regan Smith. She is the 100-meter backstroke world record holder and recently competed in the Paris 2024 Olympics. She always keeps a positive attitude towards her races, and I aspire to be a little more like her.”
