Boys JV basketball claims OK White conference title with 58-34 win over East Grand Rapids

Owen Meyer knocks down a 3-pointer

The boys JV basketball team squared off with East Grand Rapids on Thursday, March 18th for its final game of the season. The Rangers won 58-34 with sophomores Owen Meyer, Jake Koning, and Levi McKenzie combining for 42 out of the Rangers’ 58 points.

Jake was cleared to play for the first time after breaking his foot a few weeks back.

“I was happy that I was able to play for the last game of the year,’’ Jake expressed.

Assistant coach Chad Bauchan was also excited about coaching Jake one more time this season.

“[Jake] had an unfortunate injury earlier in the season, and as a result, he was sidelined for a good portion of our shortened season,’’ Chad said. “He was able to get back out there for the last game of the season and performed very well.”

One of the Rangers’ greatest strengths throughout this season has been their rebounding. Sophomores Nate Delaney and Sam Sneider proved that once again against the Pioneers. Specifically, Sneider brought down nearly ten rebounds for the Rangers, while Delaney carded over ten rebounds and six points on the night.

“Our rebounding and defense was the key, especially Sam’s rebounding and effort,” head coach Jordan George said.

The Rangers finished out the year with a 10-2 record and were named conference champions. There is no doubt that the boys put in the work and earned their successful season; George made sure to point out the sacrifices made by the team this season.

“This season was special because we all showed up every day excited to compete and play together,” George commented. “These guys constantly responded to adversity in positive ways and leaned on each other when times were tough.”
