It was a narrow win for the girls varsity basketball team, but behind junior Theryn Hallock’s near triple-double, the Rangers got their fourth win in a row by a score of 53-52. The Rangers narrowly survived a surprising Thornapple Kellogg team who showed up with a lot of vengeance and wanted to win this game desperately.

“(Thornapple Kellogg) was a really good team,” Theryn said. “It felt good to see some non-conference teams for a change to prepare us for anything that we see now.”

Going into their game against TK, the Lady Rangers were on a 3 game winning streak and looking to make it 4 with a win on Friday night. FHC’s chances were looking superb going into this matchup until TK looked even better than they have played all season.

As the game started, it was a back-and-forth matchup. With the Trojans and Rangers trading buckets, it was a tie game for most of the first quarter. With Theryn getting some easy drives to the hoop along with seniors Zoe Lipke and Brittney Probst getting some shots in from 20 feet out as well. As the first quarter ended, the Rangers were narrowly down to TK but were looking for some momentum going into the second quarter.

As the second quarter rolled around, FHC finally found their groove on offense as it came within the fast break. The Rangers were getting a ton of great defensive possessions which led to some great looks on the offensive end from Theryn, Zoe, Brittney, and senior Ava Metaj who came in clutch in the 2nd quarter with some tough shots that went in for FHC. As halftime came around, the Rangers were narrowly up but looking to extend their lead.

As the halftime huddle broke, the Lady Rangers started the third quarter and after less production from the starters, the bench finally got in and gave FHC some great minutes. Sophomore Delaney Smith and freshman Ashtyn Scarlato gave the Rangers some great defense in the on-ball situations and got to the hoop, scoring a majority of the points to give FHC a needed boost. The Rangers were still up going into the fourth quarter and looking to put in the dagger and take care of the trojans.

The fourth quarter was finally here and it was the same story as the first quarter. The Rangers and Trojans were trading shot after shot and it seemed like everything was falling through the hoop for both teams. With Theryn getting a lot of shots in, the Rangers were finally pulling away. As time winded down, the Lady Rangers finally got the win 53-52 but had a lot to work on.

The Lady Rangers have now won 4 in a row and are now 7-4 and look to get revenge on Byron Center, a team they lost to already, on Tuesday, March 16th at 7 PM, and then will face East Grand Rapids on senior night on Thursday in the season finale for the Lady Rangers.
