FHC crew goes to Canada for final outing
The FHC Crew team has had a superb season. Despite the high expectations of the team before the season, expectations were still exceeded. No matter how good your team is, sending multiple boats to nationals is an accomplishment. This past weekend, post nationals, the team took one final trip to Canada to cap off their 2023 season.
This meet was Canada’s national one. Similar boats to those that performed at our nationals, did well there. The men’s senior four, who placed second at our national, placed third in Canada. This team has had a spectacular season. They consistently placed high at all meets led by senior captain and Oregon State commit Sam Logan.
Sam commented on his last high school meet ever, “It was definitely sad to be leaving this team that’s been such a big part of high school and my life. I’ve made so many sacrifices for this team but they’ve all been worth it to spend time with this great group of guys and I wouldn’t have wanted to end it any other way. It was fun to go out in Canada with the team and end our year off and I hope future years can build off our successes and see even more of it.”
The men’s senior 4 placed fourth. This boat has also had a great season. The girls lightweight four also placed fourth in the meet. The girls have not had as great of a season but this boat capped off its season in a brilliant fashion.
The team had a great year overall. There really was not much room for them to be better. Although the team is losing many key seniors, there are multiple underclassmen ready to step up and take their place.
Junior Lucas Fors commented on preparing to take over the reins, “Going into my senior year of crew I plan to make the most of it, to have fun, and make an impact on the team.”
Seniors leaving is always bittersweet, they may be ready to move on but it is always sad to leave something you’ve done forever. Although these seniors are looking forward to their coming years, they will never forget FHC for the fun times it gave them.
