FHC crew hosts invitational
After a successful event against teams from all over the Midwest in the week prior, the FHC crew team had high hopes of heading into their very own Forest Hills invite on Saturday, April 29.
The men had an especially good showing, placing first overall. They had two varsity boats place first, their four and eight, along with multiple novice and JV boats.
Lucas Fors, a key junior in boat eight, spoke on how good it felt to take home the win at a tournament they hosted. “It is important for us to win the event, as we put it on every year and definitely do not want the trophies falling into the hands of other schools.” Clearly, it felt good for the boys to succeed.
The girls also had a good day, finishing third overall, winning the gold in varsity women’s lightweight four and up, and silver in varsity women’s eight and up.
Senior member Sophie Brown spoke on the girls’ performance: “After our competition at Huron Sprints, which was very competitive and allowed us to see what we needed to work on and what was successful, we used that to our advantage at the Forest Hills Invitational and ended up finishing second.”
Junior team member, Eliza Cool, added on: “We have all been training incredibly hard since January, and I think that’s what made the second-place finish possible. We obviously still have room for improvement but we have definitely grown since last year.”
Overall, the team finished second. Although this was not exactly the finish they wanted, it was certainly not a bad result. They worked very hard, and the results showed.
Senior captain Sam Logan commented, ”Our hard work has been showing. It rewarded us this past week and now we are looking forward to our next regatta at Orchard Lake.”
In past years, the crew team has been much above average as well. The team is continuing these years of tradition with another exceptional year. A large part of that is thanks to seasoned veterans who have been on the team for many years, like twins Sam and Caroline Logan— who are large parts of the team in more ways than one.
As deserved, the team’s morale is good heading into its next meet on Saturday, May 6, at Orchard Lake St Marys. The team looks to continue its streak of top finishes there.
