FHC crew places well in Midwest meet
FHC Crew participated in the Huron Springs Sprints this past weekend in Ohio. Overall, the team met expectations–placing 9th out of 22 teams from all over the Midwest.
The team had two boats medal in this past event: The men’s varsity 8, stroked by Daniel Wang, and the men’s novice 4 stroked by Alden Michiels. As this is one of the team’s largest events to date, the results were satisfactory, to say the least.
The team had a solid event but still has room to improve. Key team member, Lucas Fors, spoke on how they are looking to improve. “We had a good first regatta. It was tougher competition than normal and we only have room to improve from here on out.”
This crew team is led by a strong core of seniors. Many of them have been rowing their entire four years at FHC. This experienced squad has been leading the less experienced members in preparation for events like this one. Senior team member Nate Philip spoke on how results show how much they’ve worked. “After a long winter season, and a huge first regatta, we are looking good as a team and have great things to come.”
The team has a big event coming up on Saturday, April 29, where they will host the Grand Rapids Invitational. Senior captain Sam Logan commented on how they were going to prepare, saying, “We’re going to keep on pushing ourselves and working hard towards our goals.”
