Levi McKenzie leads boys JV basketball to a 46-41 win against East Grand Rapids
The boys JV basketball team defeated rival East Grand Rapids on Thursday by 5 points, with a final score of 46-41. Sophomore Levi McKenzie put up 27 points for the Rangers in the win.
Levi had an all-around spectacular game. Out of the first nine points on the board for the Rangers, Levi had seven. He continued his hot streak throughout the first half, finishing with 17 points at the break.
“It was an all-around good game for us,” Levi said. “We just kept attacking throughout the whole game and we never took our foot off the gas.”
Sophomore Noah Burr was a defensive machine for the Rangers. He was constantly in the battle for loose balls and came away with many of them. His intensity on the defensive side of the floor was immense. As a result, he brought the energy level up in the gymnasium and was a key part of the team’s success against the Pioneers.
“Noah played great for us tonight,” assistant coach Chad Bauchan said. “Defensively I thought he was great, having his hands active and getting deflections and steals that allowed us to get easy baskets and go on a run.”
The Rangers improve to 5-2 on the season. Almost half-way through the season now, the Rangers have shown that they are a team to beat in conference play. The boys have some big games coming up in the next couple of weeks including rematches with Northview and Grand Rapids Christian.
