The Forest Hills gymnastics team competed in its last competition this previous Saturday, March 4. The meet was full of emotions; the girls were super happy to compete in such a high-stakes competition, but also sorrowful about the meet being the last time they would have the chance to compete with the upperclassmen.

“It was definitely bittersweet going into regionals as it would most likely be the last meet for our seniors,” said senior captain Abby Cummings. “We were all super excited to compete though and show off our season of hard work.

Competing in regionals is its own separate experience compared to regular meets. There are higher stakes and bigger scores to beat.

“Regionals is such a huge meet and all of your scores are very important because it determines whether you go to states or not, so it can be a little bit stressful,” fellow senior captain, Charlotte Stephan stated.

The ladies competed in one team this time, roping in multiple amazing scores. Sophomore Claire Worth secured a score of 8.75 on vault. On bars, junior Rachael “Jo” Yeager attained a score of 8.4 and an amazing score of 9.175 on floor. A score of 8.25 was given to junior Jia Nieymeyer on beam.

Overall, the ladies competed outstandingly. Despite the blood running, the adrenaline coursing, and some unfortunate circumstances, everyone pulled through.

“I think this meet went really well, especially considering our circumstances of having multiple people injured or sick,” senior Lauren Wolffis explained.

Lauren discussed that this meet was a good meet to end the season with.

“I am so proud of everyone on the team, and I hope they’re all proud of everything they’ve accomplished this year,” Lauren exclaimed. “We have come so far from where we were at the beginning of the season, and 4th place in the region is a really good place to be.”

Two gymnasts, Abby and Rachael, will be continuing their gymnastics journey to states for individuals. The rest of the team has finished their amazing season. The competition for states will be next weekend on Saturday, March 11. The time is TBD. Great job this season ladies, and good luck to Abby and Rachael!
