On Thursday, March 3, the boys varsity basketball team squared off against the Fighting Scotts of Caledonia. It was a big bounce-back game for them after they had just fallen short of GRC on Tuesday. They knew they needed this win for momentum headed into playoffs.

Right from the get-go, FHC was clearly the favorite team. The boys were beating the Scotts to every ball and every turnover and capitalizing on every possession. Junior Jonas VanderWoude said, “It felt great to get off to a great start and set the precedent for the rest of the game. Caledonia did not like our intensity and gave up early in the first half.” The score at the end of the first was 17-6 in favor of the Rangers.

The start of the second quarter was the same as the first for FHC Rangerball. A lot of the points in the first half were gained by senior Nate Delaney and Jonas with a load of boards and threes. The Rangers kept the foot on the gas full throttle leading 32-18 at halftime.

The second half was just the same as the first, the Rangers did not change a thing by starting off hot. The team was shooting the lights out with multiple threes from sophomore Brendan Cargill and even more from Jonas. Junior Brady Miller was playing well, rivaling teammate Jonas for leading scorer on the night with lots of layups and transition points.

The fourth quarter was just the finishing touch on the outstanding performance. FHC was just too much to handle and everybody on the court and in the stands could see that the Rangers were the dominant team all night. The boys just kept rolling with that momentum till the final buzzer. The Rangers got the win with a whopping 71-38 final score.

The Rangers had a very impressive and successful bounce-back game. This will help them build momentum heading into playoffs and give them the spark to make a tear in the MHSAA playoffs. The next game will be Monday, March 6 at Lowell at 7 PM.
