JV bowling suffers against top competition
On Monday, January 30, the JV bowling team faced off against an up-and-coming Byron Center team and fell short.
The boys didn’t win any baker games, losing one by only seven pins. They couldn’t find a rhythm until the end, winning only 4 of 10 team games. The final score was 4-26, in favor of the Bulldogs. The bowlers who stood out were Nick Francisco and Lorenzo Valdiserri. Hudson Bigford also had high praise for his team.
“The thing we’re best at is team performance. For example, me and Nick, really just click together; almost like we’re brothers,” Hudson was very confident going into the next game. “We’ll definitely beat Northview, they don’t even stand a chance.”
On Wednesday, February 1, the team faced off against the reigning state champions, the Northview Wildcats. The skill difference between FHC’s JV team and a state champion’s JV team was extremely clear that night. Unlike what Hudson proclaimed, the team didn’t come close to beating them during the baker games, losing one by 50 pins. The boy’s confidence was crushed heading into the team games, only winning 3 of 10. The final score was a crushing 3-27, leaving no room for the argument of which team was better. Northview was just on another level that night, and the score makes it seem like these teams were closer than they actually were. Bowler Lorenzo Valdiserri had a great night, however, putting up a score of 159 during the team games.
On Monday, February 6, The team played one of their best games yet against the East Grand Rapids Pioneers. The won a baker game, and also narrowly won pin count by 13 pins! The team, energized by it’s lead, came out swinging for the fences. They won 8 of 10 team games, wining the match 24-6. Bowler Mathew Curtis had a great night, scoring a 152 in one of his games, and Lorenzo had another good performance.
On Wednesday, February 8, against Grand Rapids Christian, the bowling teams will have their senior night, to send off the senior bowlers. On the JV team, the senior bowlers leaving us this year are Lorenzo Valdiserri, Jack Manchesky, and Nick Francisco.
The team will be looking to ride it’s boost in confidence against the last two opponents of the year. Home against Grand Rapids Christian, during senior night, and away against Lowell.
