As conference meets and regional matchups approach in Ranger country, many winter sports athletes are getting their last few matches in before the big games, and the varsity boys wrestling team is no exception.

On Wednesday, February 1, the FHC wrestling team had its senior night in the last home matchup of the season. With history against this matchup’s rival, the Forest Hills Northern Huskies, this meet was more than just a senior night for the team, this was a battleground. After previously falling to Northern as recently as two weeks prior, the Huskies would face a battle that was personal.

With it being the last home meet of the season, senior night was a bittersweet moment for the team, as most of its top wrestlers would be saying goodbye in the next few weeks. Although this was a hard pill for most to swallow, this didn’t stop the Rangers from giving their all and wrestling like there was no tomorrow.

The Rangers battled hard until the final match was over, and although they fell to the Huskies once again 45-28, they put a substantial amount of points on the board and showed FHN that they are a force to be reckoned with.

“The team did better than last time we faced Northern,” junior Alex Korff quoted. “We had a lot more spirit and won a lot more matches than last time as well.”

Not only was this senior night, but this was the last regular meet of the season. The team has wrapped its competition roster just in time for the OK White Tournament on Friday, February 3, at 5 pm, against multiple opponents followed by the MHSAA team districts at Forest Hills Eastern on February 8 and individuals on Saturday, February 11, at Hastings high school.

While this team may be done with roster play, stay tuned for the next upcoming weeks as the Rangers compete to get to Ford Field for the state championships, with hopes to join the long list of alumni and current wrestlers that have left their mark on the mats.
