FHC Hockey secures a win against Caledonia

Looking to get their season on track, the Rangers traveled to Kentwood Ice Center to take on the Fighting Scots of Caledonia.

So far this season, the team has struggled to find the net trying to close out games, but this game was proof that this isn’t an issue. The Rangers could net nine goals while only conceding two against the Scots giving them their first win of the season. Many Rangers accounted for the nine goals, including senior Sammy Mielock with a hat trick, juniors Owen Barber and Michael Hazzard with two a piece, and freshman Nolan Timmer and junior John Rocco with one each.

“It’s a really big success that we got our first win and especially one with as high of a score as we had. In my opinion, this is the first step in the right direction and hopefully, everything goes uphill from here,” said junior forward Owen Barber.

It is still early in the season and the team has shown a lot of promise through the first few games. The record isn’t where they want it to be, but plenty of the season is still left.

When asked how he feels about the upcoming games, freshman Hayden Tanner shared his opinions. “I feel pretty confident, for our first few games we have played well, and I think getting that first win on Wednesday really helped to increase everyone’s confidence. Getting that first win kinda lifted a weight off of all of our chests, and people are excited for our game against Grand Haven on Saturday,” said Tanner.

The Rangers’ next game is on Saturday at 8:45 am against Grand Haven at Patterson Ice Center. This game should provide the boys with a tough fight and an opportunity to get a statement win.
