Girls JV golf tees up for the last time this season

Coming into the last couple of matches in the season, the girls golf team is stronger than ever and working together to bring more wins for FHC.

On Wednesday, September 14, the girls brought home two wins against Forest Hills Northern and Northview. The scores are as follows: FHC 202, FHN 220, and Northview 232.

The team was led by Madison Hushack, who shot a career-best with 48. On Monday, September 19th, the girls played Northview and Lowell. The scores for this game are as follows: Lowell 206, FHC 227, and Northview 235.

On Thursday, September 22, the girls brought home another two wins against Grand Rapids Christian and East Grand Rapids. The scores are as follows: FHC 217, GRC 227, and EGR 235.

On Monday, September 26th, the girls played in the OK White conference against Byron Center, East Grand Rapids, Forest Hills Northern, Lowell, Grand Rapids Christian, Greenville, and Northview. The girls were without their top shooter, Emmary Mckee because she was promoted to varsity. This led freshman Sami Russell to the top, shooting a 59. The girls played their hearts out throughout the wind and rain and placed fifth overall. They ended up 10-4 for the season.

Coach Chris Sobieck is beyond proud of these girls and the team they built.

“It’s been a really good year for our team, and they have improved so much from where we were at the beginning of August,” Sobieck shares. “I think we have set the groundwork for the future, and I expect next year they will make huge jumps from where they are now. They have learned a lot and have become golfers and not someone who golfs; there is a big difference.”

Sophomore Madison Hushack is happy she picked up the sport and helped build her skills.

“For me, the season was really just learning the game of golf and learning how to improve my game since I really didn’t know that much about it is going into the season,” Madison said. It was a really fun experience and a lot less ‘uptight and serious than I expected. Everyone was so nice and encouraging, making the season a lot more enjoyable. I look forward to next year’s season and can’t wait to see what the future holds.”

Wrapping up the season, we look back on all the things these girls accomplished in such a short time.
