FHC crew continues perfect start to the season
So far this spring season, the FHC crew team has been unstoppable against all opponents. While still early on in the season, the team looks to continue its reign against every team it faces.
Following last week’s tremendous showing, the team traveled to Riverside Park in downtown Grand Rapids. The competition was an invitational event, where Forest Hills Central faced off against Forest Hills Northern, Forest Hills Eastern, East Grand Rapids, Rockford, Lowell, Spring Lake, Northview, Grand Rapids Rowing, and Lake Leelanau Rowing. It wasn’t just those teams, but two other teams from out of state; Black Swamp Rowing from Toledo, Ohio, and Rochester Rowing from Rochester, Minnesota.
This match marked the biggest meet for Forest Hills Central so far this year and the first time the team has taken on competitors from outside of the state. Taking that into consideration, this was the most important meet of the season so far and Forest Hills Central did not disappoint.
Out of the 11 teams rowing, Forest Hills Central won in overall points and in the boys’ points championship. The girls also rowed well, placing second in their points championship behind Rockford.
In better specifics, FHC took home six gold medals, five silver medals, and five bronze medals.
The gold medals were won by the junior men, varsity women’s lightweight, two teams of novice men, varsity men, and the second varsity women’s team.
The silver medals were won by the junior women, novice men, freshman women, varsity women, and varsity men’s teams.
Finally, the bronze medals were taken home by the novice women, varsity men, novice men, the second varsity men’s team, and freshman women’s team.
The crew team will hope to continue its dominant start to the season next this Saturday, May 7, at 8:00 AM, taking on opponents at the Laddie Cup Regatta at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s.
