The varsity softball team impresses in out-of-conference win against West Ottawa
There was no surprise heading into Friday’s game that the varsity softball team was starting to heat up at the plate and showed signs of improvement on the mound. In the last two games, the team has averaged seven runs and is giving up an average of nine runs. The girls looked to increase their average amount of runs against the Panthers of West Ottawa.
“I see slight improvements with the team every practice,” head coach Tracy Jenkins said. “It will not take one day, but consistent days of work are going to pay off for the squad.”
The team traveled to West Ottawa and was fairly unsure of what to expect. Since the Panthers are out of the conference, the teams only play each other once and that one game favored the Rangers.
Alyssa Wierenga started the game off fast after she hit a single. Jamison Strutz would hit a double right after to magnify the momentum. Strutz also was the main ace for the Rangers in the only game. She pitched very well and kept the lead for the majority of the game.
Maya Holser and Remmie Gavle also had great leadership throughout the game to keep the Rangers in front. FHC would seal the deal in the seventh inning to defeat the West Ottawa Panthers 10-7.
After the impressive win, the Rangers improve to 3-9 on the season. They face one of the better teams in the conference, Grand Rapids Christian, on Monday, May 1.
