Joe Murdock leads boys varsity golf to a fourth-place finish at the first Jamboree of the season

Near the end of the first OK White Jamboree of the season, senior Joe Murdock had tallied two-straight double bogeys, enough to chip into his overall score significantly. So, as the seasoned vet walked up to Hole 8 at Arrowhead Golf Course in Lowell, it was old news that it would be a Jamboree-defining hole for Joe.
“The two double bogeys really hurt. I made a couple of big mistakes on those two holes, but I finished the last two holes with a par and an eagle, so at least I was able to cancel one of the doubles.”
Joe’s fairway game came together on his last hole of the Jamboree as he eagled it to move up a few spots to fourth. Eventually, Joe would end the evening tied with Jonathan Fay from Forest Hills Northern and John Cassidy from Grand Rapids Christian.
Behind Joe in 16th place, sophomores Brett Comiskey and Nicholas Notarnicola gave the Rangers a boost on the team gross leaderboard with scores of 43. Brett’s best score of the day was on Hole 3 after he birdied the par 4 to close in on an even score. Nicholas’ best hole, on the other hand, was the behemoth on the front nine, Hole 8. On this hole, Nicholas cranked his tee shot far enough to par this 400-yard monster-of-a-hole.
“The younger guys showed grit; it was cold and windy, so the conditions were not the greatest. They fought, so it was cool to see.”
For the day, FHC finished in fourth behind Northview, Grand Rapids Christian, and OK-White powerhouse Forest Hills Northern. Collectively, the boys finished in the middle of the pack; however, thanks to Brett and Nicholas, there was still good representation for FHC in the top 25–other than Joe.
