The varsity softball team’s hitting drought leads to two losses against Zeeland West
After a devastating loss to East Kentwood, the Forest Hills varsity softball team looked to bounce back against a solid Zeeland West team. The team was looking for better performances since the first game did not go as planned. Heading into the game, the weather increasingly got colder and Forest Hills felt the effects.
In the first game, Forest Hills struggled to get on base and Zeeland West took advantage of this. The Dux got on base by walk and a few hits, which added up on the scoreboard. This stretch continued for most of the game and the Rangers dropped the first game 13-2. In the second game, the softball team had another drought that was worst than the first game. The cold weather did not help the Rangers in their limited at-bats, as they dropped the second game by a score of 11-1.
Although Forest Hills struggled for most of the double-header, there were a few bright spots throughout the two games–one was an impressive play by junior Maya Holser. The ball was hit to her in deep left field and she made an acrobatic catch to make the play, diving back and catching the potential hit. Another bright spot was the pitching from Lauren Halverson. As soon as she was put in, she put pressure on Zeeland West and slowed down the aggressive hitting for the Dux.
The doubleheader loss moves Forest Hills to a 0-4 record with the Grandville Quad coming up this Saturday, April 16. Forest Hills will take on many opponents in Saturday’s Quad and will play at Grandville’s field.
