FHC gymnastics finishes in third at the conference meet
These past few weeks have been filled with anticipation for the gymnastics team, primarily because of the conference tournament. Last Wednesday, the girls were finally able to compete; they did not disappoint.
After the past few competitions, multiple girls made qualifiers and were ready to compete. Their performances were their best all season, including multiple gymnasts who placed top five. The team as a whole came out with a high ranking.
After such a fantastic performance, there were obviously some impressive moments. Highlights from the match include juniors Addison Hoxworth and Abby Cumings, both being recognized as honorable mentions for all-conference.
Junior Bronwen Smith had an incredible performance all-around as well, taking fifth place on bars with a score of 8.525, fourth place on floor exercises with a score of 9.525, and to cap it all off, placed fifth overall at the meet.
Arguably the most outstanding performance, however, went to junior Alyssa Wierenga, who placed third on vault with a score of 9.2. Her performance helped FHC land such a great score, and she was named all-conference.
As a whole, the team had its highest score of the entire season, scoring a solid 139.5. That new high score was enough to land FHC in third place overall in the conference. With this new state of confidence surrounding the Rangers, they hope to place high at regionals and states.
Next up for the girls is regionals, and hopefully, states after that. The girls have had an impressive season so far, so it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see them go far this year in the postseason.
“Our girls’ performance was incredible, and each one brought all they had to the floor,” head coach Lauren Suzio said. “We had tons of fun and landed third as a team. We have very high hopes for regionals and hopefully state.”
