Boys JV basketball begins rivalry week with a 69-36 win over East Grand Rapids
The boys JV basketball team shot the lights out Tuesday night against East Grand Rapids in a 69-36 win over the Pioneers. Sophomore Mason McDonald led the way for the Rangers, scoring 15 points. With that being said, the scoring was very balanced for the Rangers with four players finishing in double-digits. Sophomores Brady Miller and J Coe each had 11 points while Chase Enbody dropped 14.
“We are really happy with our efforts from last night against our rival East Grand Rapids,” head coach Ike Tilden said.
Sophomore Luke VanGorp came off the bench for the Rangers and made a lasting impact on the game. VanGorp did a good job distributing the ball to his teammates and knocking down the open jump shots.
“It was a much closer game at halftime than it was last time we played them,” sophomore Tyler Hudkins said. “But, last night we came out with a lot more energy than East, and the game was pretty much decided after the first quarter.”
The Rangers have been cruising through the OK White conference this season; most games have been won in a blowout fashion. The closest game of the season came against the Huskies of Forest Hills Northern in early January. This game came down to the wire; still, the Rangers were able to pull out a two-point victory.
It just so happens that the next game of the season will be a rematch against the Huskies on foreign turf. There is no doubt that Forest Hills Northern is still bitter from the devastating loss it suffered to the Rangers earlier this year.
“Looking at Forest Hills Northern, we have another scrappy team that plays hard,” coach Tilden said. “Obviously, it’s another rivalry game, so we’ll be reviewing some film and going over their stuff this week.”
