Boys freshman basketball narrowly escapes Forest Hills Northern 55-52

The boys freshman basketball team was on a five-game winning streak heading into Friday’s game against rival Forest Hills Northern due partly to its suffocating defense.

To start out the game, both teams struggled while figuring each other out. The first team to get going was FHC, whose size and physicality outmatched the Huskies in the first half. They continued their dominance in the third quarter and found themselves up 17 going into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, Northern came out in a zone, and the Rangers were bamboozled by it. With defensive pressure and missed shots, Forest Hills Northern climbed right back into the game. FHC separated itself with crucial rebounds and defensive stops towards the end of the game. The Rangers would survive a gritty Northern team, 55-52.

Denis Medic led all scorers with 14 points. His length and dominance were shined throughout the game. Tyler Dickinson added 12 points of his own. But the main story was how Aaron Schellenburg scored nine points and locked up some of his former teammates.

The boys freshman basketball team improves to 7-1 after the big rivalry win against Forest Hills Northern. In their next matchup, the Rangers will take on the Eagles of Grand Rapids Christian this upcoming Friday.
