There may be power in numbers, but when it comes to the Lady Rangers wrestling team, a team that features the dynamic duo of sophomore Ashley Schenck and senior Remmie Gavle, it’s a whole other story.

The girls competed last Thursday in the last wrestling meet of 2021, known as the Montague Girls Invite that featured 34 different teams and schools from all over the state. It was a very good opportunity to see how FHC stands against all of the strong competition around them, such as Montague and Clinton.

“Montague has some really tough ladies, as does Clinton,” coach Rick Kacher said.

Although the competition was steep, Ashley came in second, only losing in the finals; Remmie went 0-2 and lost two close matches. Nevertheless, this tournament showed the duo what it needs to work on and what it has already nailed down.

“Ashley and Remmie continue to improve, and the only way to measure yourself is against good competition,” coach Kacher said.

Even though the ladies might not have brought home the gold for the day, the season’s competition only thickens when the Rangers travel to West Catholic High School on Saturday, January 8, to compete in the West Catholic Girls Tournament.

“It’s nice to have exclusive girls tournaments so we can see where we are at and where we need to go,” coach Kacher said.
