Girls JV basketball falls short in first game of the season
In the first game of the season for the Girls JV basketball squad, the team fought hard but fell just short to the Wyoming Wolves by a score of 30-27.
The team persisted all night, especially in the second half of the game coming back from being down eight at halftime.
With many players impacting the game on both sides of the ball, nobody had a bigger scoring impact than Inara Banks. Inara led the team with 10 points along with two three-pointers. She also had 5 fourth-quarter points, helping the team mount its comeback. Zenash Cumings was another spark on offense, contributing 8 points of her own.
Another player that had a significant impact was Lacey Smith.
“Lacey came off the bench and provided an offensive and defensive spark when we were trailing by 10 at the end of the first half,” Coach Ford said.
While the game was defensive-minded, the team has been working on the offensive side of the game at practice. Since tryouts a few short weeks ago, the girls have been trying to perfect their game. While perfect is a long stride to reach, the team must set lofty goals. One of the girls’ goals–aside from playing the sport they love and enjoy–is winning. While winning will not be the outcome of every event, fans can count on each girl to give every game her all.
With the first game of the season under their belt, the Lady Rangers have a whole season ahead of them to look forward to.
