The freshman baseball team had a season filled with ups and downs. However, the Rangers finished their season with two wins in a doubleheader against their rival Forest Hills Northern. There’s no better way to end the season than taking down a hometown rival such as Northern and achieving a season goal of 20 wins. They earned a record of 21-10-1 throughout the season; there were many outstanding performances individually. Mathew Curtis and Mathew Seurynck always showed up big in many games.

“This team of 13 guys was warriors, each having each other’s back,” head coach Paul Grady said.

However, the boys had issues defensively and offensively in some games, especially at the start of the season. In the middle of the season, the Rangers went on a seven-game winning streak, which helped the boys achieve their goal of 20 wins this season. The freshmen were dominant against Lowell, West Ottawa, and Northern. They did have many struggles against Caledonia and Byron Center, though. Overall, the season went great for the team in coach Grady’s eyes.

“The team went 21-10-1, achieving its goal of 20 wins by one game,” coach Grady said. “We ended the season by beating arch-rival FHN the last two games of the season.”

The boys are looking forward to continuing their dominance next year on the JV level, and they intend to improve on every facet of the game to beat the teams they had issues with this year. With many of the top freshman baseball players on JV this season, coach Grady is proud of what his 2020-2021 freshman baseball players have accomplished so far in their high school careers.

“The future is looking bright for FHC baseball,” coach Grady said.
