On Tuesday, the freshman baseball team faced off against Byron Center. The boys were overwhelmed with many issues in these games; they finished the day with two losses, 2-1 and 6-3. The boys were 2-2 overall against the Bulldogs going into this game and now are 4-2. With that being said, Byron Center is a team the Rangers have struggled against all season.

FHC wasn’t able to get anything going in the first game. Although they only allowed them to score twice in the first game, offensively, they weren’t getting good hits. In the second game, Mathew Curtis had a solid hit in the fourth inning that helped the Rangers immensely. Besides that hit, there wasn’t much happening for them at the plate. Roman Brummell and Mathew Seurynck pitched well, which kept the Bulldogs low scoring. Drew Fortino, an integral part of the team, was disappointed in FHC’s lack of energy.

“There was no energy,” Drew Fortino said, “but we battled hard.”

The Rangers’ next game is against rival Forest Hills Northern on Thursday, and because they have yet to play against the Huskies, it should be a tug-of-war battle. With this being the final game of their season, they look to prevent unnecessary errors from denying them a bittersweet victory.
