Girls JV soccer loses a 2-1 heartbreaker to Forest Hills Northern off of a last-minute corner kick goal

On Wednesday night, the girls JV soccer team lost in heartbreaking fashion to arch-rival Forest Hills Northern. With under a minute left to play, the Huskies placed a dangerous corner kick in front of the Ranger’s goal. An opposing player was in the right place at the right time and was able to tap redirect the ball into the net to send the Huskies home with a 2-1 victory over the Rangers.

Sophomore McKenzie Wintrick scored the only goal for the Rangers off of a free-kick early in the second half. McKenzie’s goal tied the game at 1-1 with almost an entire half left to play. However, the relatively uneventful second half was disrupted with less than a minute left to play when Forest Hills Northern booted in the game-winning goal.

“We did not play very well in the first half,” sophomore Frankie Sutton said. “We played down to their level, which put us down 1-0 after the first half.”

In these two teams’ first match, the Huskies outlasted the Rangers 1-0, and this time around, the Huskies won by one goal once again. Aside from Forest Hills Northern, the Rangers have not lost to another team. Despite the fantastic season the Lady Rangers have displayed, there is always a bitter taste left in players’ mouths after losing to an arch-rival such as Forest Hills Northern.

“For next year, we are looking to improve our communication and simple passing,” Frankie stated. “These two main concepts of the game were lost throughout our team in both of the games against Northern, and it obviously hurt us.”
