JV softball struggles to build a rally and falls short to Byron Center in a doubleheader

The JV softball team faced off against Byron Center in a doubleheader on Tuesday. The girls played a very good game against one of the best teams in the area. Unfortunately for FHC, the Rangers lost the first game to Byron Center 16-4 in five innings.

FHC had 13 hits, but also 5 errors. Sophomore Lauren Halverson and junior Lyra Vandenberg went two-for-three along with Charlotte Stephen going one-for-two at the plate. The girls played a solid game in the first couple of innings, but the Bulldogs began to pull away when they started a rally.

In the second game, the Rangers were defeated again by a score of 13-7. They had 10 hits, with Lauren going two-for-three yet again. Byron Center had 15 hits and the Rangers once more committed 5 errors. However, FHC’s offensive output for both of these games was phenomenal. They got hits and put down timely bunts, despite committing 10 errors total throughout the two games. Overall, the girls played much better than the previous meetings that saw much larger margins of defeat.

The girls have improved a lot this season and will look to continue on the same path. The Rangers will face off against the Bulldogs again on Friday, May 21 at 4:15 PM at Forest Hills Central High School.
