The girls varsity lacrosse program took down Ann Arbor Skyline last Friday, 21-11. This was the Rangers’ last non-conference opponent for the season. Sophomores Gabby Hendricks and Shannon Murphy both had seven goals for FHC and paved the way for their team’s victory over the Eagles.

The girls jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, but the Eagles made a charge and knocked the Rangers on their heals’ towards the end of the first half. Yet, the Rangers still managed to lead by three goals at the end of the first half. 

“We started off strong, but then Skyline started to climb as well,” sophomore Paige Fron said. “But we did not worry because of Delaney with her quick catches and Shannon and Gabby with their behind-the-back shots.”

The Rangers were able to adjust on the fly multiple times throughout the game due to Skyline’s different style of attack. The girls were able to shut down Skyline’s strategy early on in the game and left the Eagles disoriented. The Rangers capitalized on the Eagle’s confusion and stretched out their lead. 

“At this point in the season, it was great to see the team adjust on their own and fix things throughout the game,” head coach Zoe Mamo said. “They were able to play strong and pick it up when needed, making it an overall strong game for the team.”

The Rangers have one game remaining in the regular season: East Grand Rapids. The Pioneers thumped FHC in its previous meeting 18-5; however, this time, the girls are looking to push their cards into the middle of the table and come out with a different outcome.

“I think our team has really improved as a whole since we last saw them,” junior Sophie Hartl said. “Now that we kind of know what they try to do on offense, we hope to give them a better game this time around.”
