Senior Brady Price shined yesterday in game one of the doubleheader for the varsity baseball team, but it was to no avail. The Rangers continued their skid yet again with a pair of losses at the hands of Northview 3-2 and 8-0. For the first time in a very long time, the varsity baseball team has lost five games in a row.

After a sweep given by East Grand Rapids, FHC was looking to get a win on the board to keep its record afloat at a .500 level. The work on the mound for the Rangers looked promising in game one, but it all fell apart in game two.

To start off game one for the Rangers, senior Joey Wise saw the third pitch in his happy zone and drove the ball out to left field for a leadoff double. Right after Joey, Brady drove him home with an RBI single that gave FHC the lead 1-0 to end the top of the first. On defense, Brady looked phenomenal on the mound by getting quick outs in the field, along with striking out four Wildcat batters in his four and two-thirds innings of work. Back at the plate, junior Joe Seurynck was able to drive in a run on a single into left field that made the score 2-0 in the third inning.

After a quick rally to give Brady some cushion on the mound, the bottom half of the fifth inning came around, and quickly, Northview would get runners on base and score some runs on Brady to narrow down the Ranger lead to one. Junior Joe Robertson got the call in relief for Brady and only gave up one more run to tie the game at two. The Rangers couldn’t get anything going at the plate, and after Northview scored a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth, the Rangers didn’t get anything going in the top half of the seventh inning. FHC lost the first game 3-2.

In game two, FHC was looking to bounce back after now losing its fourth game in a row. Similar to the end of game one, it seemed like the momentum took over for Northview in game two. Junior Josh Smith started the game at the bump and was quickly rocked. The Wildcats scored four runs on him in the first two innings. In his three innings of work, Josh struck out and walked three batters while giving up four runs. On offense, the team couldn’t get anything going with the biggest rally of the game being a couple of singles that led into two groundouts in the third inning. Junior Kaeden Palmitier came in for relief for Josh and gave up four runs of his own while letting up eight hits. It was a game the Rangers wanted to forget, as they lost 8-0.

The Rangers now have a record of 10-11. As the postseason draws closer and closer, the team is looking to get the ball rolling. The Rangers will play Northview again at FHC this Wednesday, May 12th at 4:15 PM.
