Girls JV soccer gets a good weekend win over Portage Central 2-0

Saturday, May 9, was the first weekend game of the season for the girls JV soccer team. It was the third game of the week for the Rangers, so they were all low on energy. Despite their tired state, the girls pulled off a 2-0 win over Portage Central.

The two top scorers combined their efforts once again, with sophomores Frankie Sutton and Mackenzie Wintrich each scoring a goal.

“We were all pretty tired because we had played a game less than 24 hours before, but we were able to step it up in the second half and work as a team,” sophomore Audrey Kind said.

The first half was a bit of a struggle, and the girls needed some time to wake up. However, as the second half began, the Rangers pushed through their fatigue in order to defeat the Mavericks. FHC focused on ball movement and accurate passes to conserve energy and break down their opponents. Freshman goalie Jenna Lowell stood out in this game, having many key saves and shutting out Portage Central’s attackers.

“I think [Jenna] was a very important player in this game because she worked very hard throughout the whole game and allowed us to come out victorious,” Audrey said.

The next game for the Rangers is away against Forest Hills Eastern, which will take place on Monday, May 10th, at 5:00 PM.
