Girls JV soccer easily defeats Byron Center 5-0

The defensive line led the girls JV soccer team to a great win against Byron Center, holding the Bulldogs to a shutout on Friday. The Rangers won 5-0 and put away this new OK White opponent.

“We handled Byron Center way better than Northern,” freshman Skylar Tierney said. “It was almost like we were a different team.”

Byron Center had a very aggressive attacking line and threatened to score when they had the chance. However, the Ranger defense rose to the occasion and shut them down every time the Bulldogs tried to make an advance.

“We heard Byron had some very fast players, so our defense was expected to stay back more,” sophomore Frankie Sutton said.

Frankie had another outstanding offensive effort, scoring four out of the five goals for the Rangers. Helping out Frankie on the attack, freshman Zenash Cumings cashed in on the fifth and final goal of the contest. The Rangers worked hard on ball movement, forcing Byron to shift and chase the ball constantly.

FHC’s next game is an out-of-conference match against Portage Central. They will travel to the Mavericks’ home turf on Saturday, May 8, at 12:30 PM.
