Girls JV soccer acquires its first loss of the season to Forest Hills Northern 1-0

On Wednesday, May 5, the girls JV soccer team battled against its biggest rival, Forest Hills Northern. Unfortunately for the girls, the Huskies gave them their first loss of the season. The final score was 1-0, with the Rangers losing a close-fought battle.

“They were by far our toughest team; we did struggle a little because we haven’t really played any teams like this yet,” sophomore Audrey Kind said. “We did not work as a team very well, but it is a great learning experience for the future.”

The girls have played against some weaker opponents and were not quite sure how to take on a quicker team like Northern, but they played hard the whole time. On top of that, they made sure not to let many goals in. Freshman goalie Zariah Knuff had an amazing game, limiting the Huskies to only one goal. For FHC, this goal came back to haunt them because it was a devastating own goal.

“Zariah is a great goalie; she had an incredible save that she jumped really high to get to,” Audrey said. “It is good to have her in goal because she is always working hard and encouraging us throughout the game.”

After this game, the girls’ record sits at 8-1. The next opponent for the girls is Byron Center, a new team in the OK White Conference. They will travel to play them on Friday, May 7, at 5:00 PM.
