JV water polo comes back to beat Grand Haven 8-3 after Jenison loss

The JV Forest Hills United water polo team traveled to Grand Haven last Tuesday and brought home a win. Although it did score eight goals, the team’s strength was in its steals, which FHC had 15 of. FHC freshman Ashley Schenck led the team with four of those steals, two assists, and one goal of her own.

Northern freshman Anna Wierchertjes and FHC freshman Olivia Oorbeck both performed well in Tuesday’s game against the Buccaneers. With four shots each resulting in two goals for both of them, this duo made up half of the team’s points. Anna also won all four of the team’s sprints.

The other four goals came from sophomore Sydney VanLente, freshman Rutaja Nadguada, Ashley Schenck, and Elliott McAlpine.

On the defensive end, FHC sophomore Sydney Bacon also had a great game in the goal. Only letting the Buccaneers score three, Sydney had a lot of great saves. She saved nine shots in one of her best games of the season.

The girls will play West Ottawa at home on Thursday, May 6th in efforts to capture another win. The game is at home at 6:00 pm.
