After dropping both of its matches versus Grandville and Zeeland West, varsity water polo has finally bounced back. Forest Hills has given up more than 14 points in its last two games, but they flipped the tables and won 19-6 against a solid Portage Central squad this past Saturday. The offense had a much better day, as both junior Caroline Bell and senior Rachel Schenck went off for five goals and three assists each.

Other notable upperclassmen that found their footing were juniors Avery Verlinde, Kyra Wittig, Sofia Johnson, and senior Kaitlyn Kimer. Avery was the third-leading scorer for Forest Hills, racking up four goals and an assist. Kaitlyn and Kyra also had very similar games. Kaitlyn scored three goals and an assist, while Kyra finished with two goals. Sofia didn’t score a goal in the game, but she left her mark on the game by getting three assists and five steals.

In net, junior Jessica Plantamura had a much more efficient performance, finishing with 16 saves on 22 shots for a final save percentage of 72 percent. Forest Hills is now 4-5 on the season and will catch a much-needed break for a few days. The girls’ next bout is this Thursday, April 29, versus Jenison. Once they finish business against Jenison, they will face an uphill task in the annual district seeding games on Saturday, May 1.
