Girls JV soccer defeats Gull Lake 2-1 in a close battle

The girls JV soccer team faced off against one of its toughest opponents on Friday, the Gull Lake Blue Devils. The girls defeated the Blue Devils by a score of 2-1, fighting to keep their undefeated record. The girls knew this game would be a battle, and they made sure to play their hardest.

“This game was definitely our most challenging so far, but I think everyone stepped up their game,” said freshman Skyler Tierney.

Sophomores Frankie Sutton and Mackenzie Wintrich each scored a goal in this game, keeping up their offensive domination. Both of these girls have done well in every game this season to ensure victories for the Rangers.

“My favorite play of the game was when Mackenzie scored our second goal with 50 seconds left to put us ahead for the win,” Skyler said. “It was a handball foul called just outside the box, and she put it over the defensive wall into the top left corner of the goal.”

Freshmen Bryn Pennington and Jenna Lowell also played at a high level by preventing the Blue Devils from making any devastating offensive runs. Bryn hustled up and down the field, stepping to every ball and playing aggressively to force Gull Lake into difficult positions on offense. Jenna, the Ranger goalie, made several impressive saves. Jenna’s contributions in goal held the Blue Devils to only one goal.

The next game for the Rangers is on Monday, April 26, at 5:00 PM. They will face the East Grand Rapids Pioneers on FHC’s home field.
