Coming off an 11-5 win over Zeeland, the JV water polo team was on a six-game win streak heading into its game against Portage United. Having one of their best games yet, the girls defeated Portage by a wide margin. Of the 17 goals the girls scored, seven of them came from FHC freshman Olivia Oorbeck as she had her best game yet.

“It felt very good to just score one, let alone seven,” said Olivia. “It felt so much better watching my teammates, who normally aren’t able to play long, score goals as well.”

The 17 goals came from five different girls on the team. Northern freshmen Anna Wiechertjes and Rutaja Nadgauda both scored four goals each, and Rutaja had an assist as well. The other two goals came from freshmen Ashley Schenck, and Eve Orban.

Although she didn’t score, northern freshman Nora Havemeier had some other great plays in Saturday’s game. Nora not only had an assist, but she had five steals over the course of the game, more than any other player.

As for the goalie, FHC sophomore Sydney Bacon had a great game. She only let three in the net and had many saves as well.

The girls will host Jenison at 6:00 pm at the Aquatic Center this Thursday, April 29th.
