JV water polo continues winning streak with an 11-5 victory over Zeeland

The Forest Hills United JV water polo team has been dominating in the pool this season. Adding to their success, they secured a big win over Zeeland on Thursday night. With 17 team steals, all four sprints won, and over 15 shots taken, the girls had one of their best games yet.

The duo of northern freshmen Anna Wiechertjes and Elliott McAlpine showed up once again to lead the team, contributing towards three goals on the night. Anna even scored her last goal using her left hand; she also had an assist and two of the team’s steals.

Freshman Ashley Schenck also had a great game. Being mainly a defensive player, Ashley made it down the pool and scored two of the team’s goals. On the defensive side, Ashley had six steals.

Northern sophomore Brooke Bernier played well on offense and defense. Matching Ashley with her six steals, Brooke was very aggressive on defense last night. Brooke also had a goal and assist to help out the team. Freshman Nora Havemeier has gone under the radar a bit this season, but Nora came out of her shell and put up two points for the team.

The team’s goalie, central sophomore Sydney Bacon, also played well. Although Zeeland scored five goals, they took about 15 shots, and Sydney was able to block most of them. Sydney also had an assist to one of her teammates.

The girls’ next game is home on Thursday, April 29, against the Jenison Wildcats.
